Canoe Kids

These two canoes loaded with gear and teenagers came into the harbor under sail looking like a couple of real live pirate boats. So this image failed miserably on many levels. To begin with, I didn't get the camera out in time to capture their entrance into the harbor. It was spectacular! Secondly, my vision was for a b&w photo with some amazing hand coloring in photo oils for the tee shirts and life vests and maybe some of the gear. Without a darkroom or digital editing know-how I can't accomplish anything close. I tried using the effects set on 'antique'. Ho Hum. Anyway, I was taken with the energy these kids had for their activities. It might have been just play (campers returning from an island over-night, for example), real marine research or even small scale pirating, I suppose. : ) Regardless, they were all so happy and that's what I ended up liking about the image.
