EVERYTHING'S ICONIC.
In the Professional Bullshit section, my favourite dictionary points out that once icons were religious images. Then came computer icons. Now any object, image, person, can be iconic. They add that the word is devalued to the point where it should only be used with imaginary quotation marks. Or not at all, I say.
I love the humour in this book. One of my favourite entries is :
With respect (adv. phrase) in legal circles, this is code for 'you are a nincoompoop'. The greater the respect, the greater the degree of contempt.
'With the greatest respect...' is almost actionable.
Happy weekend all. Tomorrow we're going to a party in Oxford. It's a long way to go for a party, but is anywhere too far? Mundy and I once drove 1200km from Harare to Johannesburg for a Scorpio party. It was worth it.
