Fairy pools
I've come back to this little natural paradise a few times now. One of the main characteristics of the Fairy Pools is its perfectly clear icy blue waters, it attracts a lot of visitors - the single track road is lined with cars during the day, and the first mile is bustling with people and fellow photographers.
Me and my intrepid explorer team passed by the pools on our way to the mountain top from which the water runs down. After the first mile it was a lot quieter, if you don't mind the walk its worth heading up to the large waterfall that you can see in the distance on the right side of the mountain, this is where I took this picture. There are hardly any other people about, although we did stumble across a pair of skinny dippers on our way back down who must have thought the same thing. While we gave them their space I went for a swim in this bit, I could just about touch the bottom with my toes. I didn't really have much choice but to jump in when the midges started attacking me!
So my advice if you travel over to Skye at this time of year, bring a midge net and plenty of repellent spray. Also, good waterproofs and boots, it gets very wet and muddy!
Claire.
