Dry garden, suggestions welcome

I am planning to plant a dry Mediterranean style garden this autumn to extend this terrace a few yards forward...and to reduce the amount of grass that needs cutting. It needs to be fairly low maintenance and I won't be watering it so I need drought tolerant plants. We have a fairly low rainfall here close to Cromer and the north Norfolk coast.
Any suggestions as to plants, particular varieties or plant combinations would be welcome. Or any other vaguely relevant thoughts for that matter!
