Wooden Rafts
So here in Slovakia they do rafting in a couple of rivers, the most scenic of which is supposedly in the Tatras mountains on the river that separates Slovakia from Poland. We decided to give it a go. It's not rafting as you know it, rather they sling together a bunch of big wooden buckets and make a raft which they drift down the river. You're about 12-15 on there. It's quite cool, as the scenery is superb. The river winds so much that you never really know if what you're looking at is Poland or Slovakia. These are beautiful mountains, entirely forested, with the occasional crag showing through. For the journey back to our car, we opted to rent bikes and take the path back along the river. I took this photo on the way, you can see two barges. When we got back, we had what I think may have been the cheapest lunch yet. My god beers here are good, particularly at less than €1 a 50cl.
We hit the road for another spa town to stay in further east, this time with an indoor pool to chill in. On the way, we passed through Bardejov, the first town on the way which seems to be inhabited by a young population rather than older people, maybe it's a university town. Really nice place!
