Crimple Low Viaduct
This disused railway viaduct is situated on part of the Harrogate ringway footpath. It still looks majestic in spite of being surrounded by many large trees close by.
Part of the former Leeds & Thirsk railway, the 200 yard long viaduct opened on 9th July 1848.
The poor condition of the viaduct prompted the installation of tie bars and pattress plates which can clearly be seen, and probably contributed route's demise. In 1951, the structure was deemed to have deteriorated beyond economic repair and the line over it closed on 26th June.
This impressive structure now stands within land belonging to the Yorkshire showground.
