Hawkhill Cross
Posted this a couple of times already on here, thought the wind scudding the clouds along and whipping over the crop in the field up would make for a bit more of an action shot.
Reading up a bit more on this Bronze Age/Pictish monolith today found out there's evidence of a stone circle nearby, though that seems to have disappeared completely with the centuries of cultivation on the site. The old tree that partnered and protected the stone has now gone completely, after taking a pounding the past few years and eventually losing its battle with the wind, so the ancient ten foot slab now sits on the hill all by itself.
Also discovered there's another standing stone a few miles away in the Wee County that I didn't know about which might be worth some investigating.
One of the county's four Towers is up on the ridge in the distance, though you'll need to go LARGE to see that.
History lesson done, time for some Chinese take-away and a bit of Saturday night slobbing on the sofa.
