The trouble with Magpies...

isn't anything to do with their corvid nature as much as their timidity.
Jackdaws, occasionally, tolerate me outside without panic, "Carry on" crows likewise. A Magpie merely has to smell, a hint of a suspicion of an idea that I MIGHT, MAYBE, open the back door and they're away like the proverbial rat up a drainpipe.
In consequence, they mostly need shot from well inside the kitchen, through the window.
I, very nearly, slipped into a time-warp then and said "Back-Kitchen". When AH waz a lad. Our house, apart from the Bathroom (English version, the American version was "Down the yard") had 3 rooms: know as "The Parlour" or Front room, the "Kitchen" and the "Back Kitchen". Younger folk probably know them as "Kitchen", "Living Room" & "Sitting room".
