Jugband

You really don’t need to spend much money to enjoy the Edinburgh Fringe. Yesterday was my day for browsing round the Book Festival and seeing the Diaspora Tapestry. Today I wandered around various places watching all sorts of entertainers including African singing impromptly as they were walking along a main road, tumblers and gymnasts, mimers, jugglers and fire eaters, dancers, classical musicians and a puppet playing Beatle hits. A minority were struggling to get a positive reaction but many of the performers are really good.

I was impressed by this group from Australia. The Perch Creek Family Jugband comprise four siblings and the boyfriend. They were playing several instruments and included a saw, a jug and washboard and also a bit of tapdancing. Their enthusiasm, joy and energy as they played a mixture of jazz, blues and skiffle drew great applause from the onlookers.
