Midrand Mosque
The Nizaymie Masjid, known locally (and colloquially) as the "Midrand Mosque", is located just outside Johannesburg. Completed in 2012, and funded by Ali Katırcıoğlu, a Turkish businessman, it is the biggest mosque in the Southern Hemisphere. The basic plan of the masjid was adopted from the 16th-century Ottoman Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, Turkey. Edirne also famous for its oil wrestling tournament.
Best seen in LARGE. This blip taken on an early morning photo excursion and in the warm soft light at that time of the day.
It's taken some time for me to post this blip as I wanted to arrange the rest of the shots on Flickr. They're worthwhile looking at if you have the time.
