Keep

Bolton Castle is a castle but isn't in Bolton. It's in Castle Bolton. Which is in Wensleydale.

You may recognise it from such films as Ivanhoe and Elizabeth, or perhaps just because it is a classical medieval castle keep.

It was our first visit, the end point of a beautiful journey north through the Dales with much Tour de France paraphernalia still on show.

We had a nice meet up with old friends, tackled the maze, ascended to the battlements, gazed up at the sky, visited Mary Queen of Scots' bedroom and the wild boars and tried some archery (not involving boars).

A fun day out and plenty to make a return visit worthwhile.
