Geneva City Overnighter

This morning we all did different things - Will and I went on a loping ride, Andy and Scott went on a hike, Susan went on a walking ride and Ewan stayed at the ranch and got the bus to meet us at the fajita cookout. The ranch dog Sonny came on the loping ride with us, clearly enjoying every minute.

Our loping ride was brilliant, we got at least 5 in, with the horses getting more and more up for it each time. Will got a good bit of speed out of Hunter!

The food at the fajita cookout was awesome. Andy was too nervous to eat, thinking about getting back in a horse.

We rode out just as it started to rain, the first we have seen all week. Sonny escaped from the jeep she was being held in and followed us - she's not supposed to get on the overnight ride anymore as it is too far for her old bones! The ride up to the abandoned city Geneva is a tough ride, uphill, rocky and frankly, a bit thankless. We had the option to stay at high camp instead of the last hour and a bit trek to the city, but we bravely battled on. Geneva city is a collection of old wooden cabins in a derelict state. It was very cold and wet. We didn't stay long.

Luckily the rain stopped and the sun came out as we headed down to high camp. Christian was waiting for us with hot chocolate, followed by the most amazing steaks, potatoes and beans, then peach cobbler cooked in a Dutch Oven(?!). It started getting pretty cold, even though I was wearing about 7 layers of clothing, so we went to bed about 9.30. Bed was sleeping bags on bare mattresses in a 3 sided shack, sharing with the four Cochrane boys, Ray and Raymond. Surprisingly comfortable!!
