Cake'ole
That's the name of the cafe in Craven Court, Skipton where I had coffee and cake with my very good friends this morning.
Dot and I met on the train and found Jackie waiting for us here. She had arrived on the bus. We started our day out with these treats but were quite sober in our choice.
This cafe in renowned for it's quirky menu including a huge rainbow cake but it has a unique selection of drinks. Traditional vintage drinks ie Sarsaparilla are served in jam jars with lids and straws and more quirky still are frothy concoctions also served in jars like 'Jamie Dodger Milkshakes' and 'Cookie Delight ice cream sundae' also served in jars. The girls in the background here are having something along those lines which came piled high with whipped cream. It was certainly very popular.
We had a nice day browsing around the market stalls and shops as well as a quick look at the canal. There was a heavy shower later but we managed to find a place for tea until it was over.
A great day out but a bit of an adventure still to come. At the station it became apparent that our train was going nowhere. It turned out there was a power fault at Shipley and a broken down train in Bingley (my stop). So right on rush hour we were told it might be an hour before they could organise some buses!
The day ended with a magical mystery tour around the stations dropping people off and picking others up who were waiting for absent trains.
PS if you don't know, cake' ole is a euphemism for mouth!
