Fishermen Depart

Each evening some of the many boats beached at Playa Principal cast off for a night of fishing. During the high season, as many as a dozen boats can be departing at any one time, but tonight this was the only one leaving the beach. These four guys had already moved the Estrella from the dry sand to the water's edge on palm tree rollers and were now using an incoming wave to float her into water deep enough to drop the engine. Then they will be off to ply the sea in search of tuna, mahi, snapper, and other fish which will be sold the following morning either directly from the beach or in the mercado. It is good to see the industry that was primarily responsible for putting Zihuatanejo on the map still being practiced today.
