Remembering in the sunshine

One of the tasks I set myself in recent years is to develop an accurate digital record of the cemeteries in the parish. It's been an interesting project an a few others have been involved. It includes a database which has a transcription of the headstones, photos of the graves, and names of the deceased from parish journals.
Today I was backtracking over part of the graves at Enniskeane cemetery to check them against the database. As I did so, I also prayed for the people who are buried here … all kinds of circumstances, all ages, all eras, all kinds of stories.
At the edge of one section of the cemetery is this calvary. It reminds me of a line written by Sean Dunne — a Waterford man who settled in Cork as a journalist and poet but died all too young — which says that "the cross is a very accurate image of life for very many people".
And while all this was going on, the warm sunshine was hopping off my back!
