Newcastle life

Art Deco pool

I love 1930s architecture!
This is Fenham pool where we went for a post work swim this evening. It was my first time there and I just had to take a picture!
It was built in 1938 and has lovely curved frontage. It closed in 2003 due to funding cuts (hence the lost the original "fenham baths" sign on the front- outline still visible below the new modern sign) but local residents registered themselves as a charity and fought hard to raise money to see it re-opened as a community pool in 2007.

The beautiful Newcastle city pool and Turkish baths, in the town centre, which opened in 1927, also closed last year due to council budget cuts. I really hope that we can see it open again soon.

Today was a productive work day followed by a swim. Although the exercise was cancelled out by indulging in a BBQ with cheeseburgers and cider! At least I enjoyed the swim!
