Small tortoiseshell butterfly

I thought at first this was a painted lady - but consulting my 60 year old 'Observers Book of British Butterflies' showed me it is a small tortoiseshell. The butterflies always come to the buddleia in greatest numbers when the flowers are almost all gone, so I was fortunate to get this one actually on a purple bloom.
