Assumption day on Paxos

We took a boat to a little island with a monastery on today- the gates are only open for special religious festivals. We wandered in to my first Orthodox mass- hundreds of people crammed into a tiny chapel- lots of gold and incense- guilt icons looking down. It was. So. Hot. I was amazed by an ancient lady stood by us- her faith was so moving. We shared beef soup with the mass of Italian and Greek visitors- from the cows sacrificed in honour of Mary's assumption.
