Homeless man
"What we have found in this country, and maybe we're more aware of it now, is one problem that we've had, even in the best of times, and that is the people who are sleeping on the grates, the homeless, you might say, by choice." Ronald Reagan
"We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty." Mother Teresa
The Homeless Haiku
Gwendolen Rix
cardboard castle
stomach growls, teeth chatter-
a rat scampers
dawn pushes through smog
the smell of fresh baked bread-
hot coffee and smile
cleans teeth in fountain
coins jingle in pocket-
interview at one
snow storm hits city
homeless shelters open-
cardboard castle gone
Makes me think about the stuff I have and the stuff I do not appreciate.
