Bennachie
I said I'd try to post a blip of Bennachie while I was up North this summer, and I stopped and took this today, on my way to Edinburgh.
Bennachie has a distinctive profile that dominates the surrounding Aberdeenshire countryside. It's one of my favourite places, though I never seem to get around to hiking up it these days - it's a few years since I've been up.
The slopes in front of it are one of the possible candidates for the site of Mons Graupius, the decisive battle between Agricola's Roman army and the Caledonii lead by Calgacus (of "they make a desolation, and call it peace" fame - though it's very unlikely he said that!).
I also took this mono shot that shows Bennachie itself more clearly, but decided to go with the colour one showing the broader landscape.
