adjustable
This is a Sarad adjustable trumpet mouthpiece, used by music teachers but no longer in production. The cup depth can be varied, allowing a student to find their best number before ordered a solid (fixed) mouthpiece.
It was invented by a distant cousin of mine, Walter Sarad (1919-2008). I never met Mr. Sarad but I learned about him while doing genealogical research. He was a professional musician, studied at Juilliard and performed at Carnegie Hall among other venues.
I bought the mouthpiece in an online auction and my son Brandon has played trumpet with it. An interesting family momento.
