Kuching: City of Cats

Malaysia is one of the countries in the region that I know least well. So I was pleased when I had to overnight in Kuching in Malaysian Borneo on the way back to Cambodia.

This is one of the city's main mosques at sunset. The city itself comes across as very liveable, being a pleasant middle ground between Singapore prices and Cambodian chaos. A big water monitor was swimming around near one of the main jetties, which was great to see. The KFC, where I tried to get an internet connection, was staffed almost fully by deaf people, which I thought was very refreshing in a region where most employers may not entertain the idea of equal opportunities employment.

Somewhere that should be explored in greater depth and for longer.

The name may derive from the Malay word for cat. I dislike cats, so that's the only sour note about my stay.
