Smithfield Market

I got up early today (5:30) and headed over to Smithfield. My plan was to see London's meat market in full swing and to 'play' with the Leica M before I had to go to work.

I took Leica up on their offer of a 48 hour 'test drive' of new Leica M and 35mm lens.

'City boy with his fancy camera' was how one of the butchers greeted me. I'm always happy to be referred to as a boy (I'll take that any day)!

I spoke to a few traders who told me that I should have arrived around 3am to catch the market at it's busiest. Most of them had already gone home at 6:30am and the few that were left were heading to the pub.

Yes quite a few bars around the market are open at that time of the day.

I was almost tempted for breakfast...
