An ordinary life....

Backblip

There was some lovely sunshine this morning before the rain battered down, so I grabbed a little time in the garden.

I was totally shocked to realise that not only are the trees starting to turn colour, but I could also smell the change in the air. That summer scent morphing into autumn is impossible to describe but unmistakeable to the nose. Another summer almost gone. But not quite. I'm still hopeful that there will be one or two lovely sunny days to come.

My tiny little apple tree is laden with apples this year. Well there are seven. Four more than last year. The other little tree has four. Might get a crumble or two out of them. :))

And now for something even more exciting than home grown apples! Had a visit from an architect this evening to discuss the exciting project we have planned for the coming year.

Those of you who know my journal well will know how much Alan loves being in water. When we go on holiday the swimming pool is his favourite place to be. Trying to access a public pool isn't always easy as the water can be too cold, the changing rooms not particularly accessible and not every pool has the proper hoists / equipment to get him safely in and out. Given these difficulties, we have decided to see if it is feasible to build a swimming pool for Alan at home. Not Olympic size, but big enough and deep enough for him to move around in it comfortably and allow whoever's helping him to stand up in the water and not have to crouch down.

We have earmarked the virtually unused games room for the purpose (full size snooker table free to a good home so long as you come and dismantle it and transport it yourself :) but accommodating a changing room and the plant room will require an extension. We are also converting the dining room to be Alan's new sitting room (more wheelchair space) so the dining room will now form part of the new extension, which in turn leads to a complete reconfiguration of the kitchen and utility room, which in turn....I could go on, but you get the picture!

I detect stressful and messy (but ultimately exciting) times ahead. Assuming we get planning permission of course! :)

My little apple trees will have to be dug up and re-sited as part of the extension. I hope they survive.
