Elephant hawkmoth 'caterpillar'

Technically a grub, (according to the Natural History Museum web page), this enormous fellow will eventually turn into a fantastic pink and green moth. Found him while out for a walk with madam today! Had to look him up as I have never encountered a bug this size ( about 7cm long, 2cm wide) but he is a regular UK critter. Likes to eat fuchsias!
It has been a long day. Madam is teething, yesterday night she woke up at 12. Midnight on the dot and wouldn't go back to sleep despite cal gel, cal pol, rocking, soothing etc. I ended up in the spare room with her so Mr P could get some sleep at least. Finally dropped off about 4.30am. Woke up at 7am this morning at which point Mr P arrived for his shift, allowing me to sleep properly for a few blissful hours. Mum came over while I was asleep as I was supposed to be going to work at 8.30, (so much for that plan...) we went in and did a bit of tidying for a few hours in the afternoon instead.
Tonight little miss has woken up crying at 4am, so I am sitting in the dark with her as she dozes in my arms (not quite asleep) hoping she will drop off fully tonight so I can go back to bed! Mr p is up early for work on mainland tomorrow so we don't want to wake him any earlier than he needs to be up!
When I put the teething gel into her mouth, I could feel at least 3 new teeth pushing up and breaking through the gums on different sides of her mouth, it must be very painful for her. Nowadays she actively opens her mouth for the teething gel and sucks the medicine from the syringe, rather than it being a fight to squirt it into her- so at least that bit is a lot easier!
