Almost Party Time!

The beautiful Japanese maple in our backyard is getting ready for fall, when its samaras -- winged fruit that carry the tree's seeds some distance away -- swell and grow, and the tree's leaves turn a rich dark red.

Some of these samaras look a little the worse for wear, perhaps due to our unusually sunny, dry summer, but I'm sure that a few will make successful flights.

One of the things I love most about participating in Blipfoto is how my eyes have been opened to the myriad delights right in my own backyard!
