Fallen Tree Branch

Fallen Tree Branch, near Berkswell

I must say, I enjoyed being outdoors last night. I enjoyed the familiar wander over the duck board, past the cedar grove, and then framing up, rejecting, moving on again and so forth. I especially enjoy a proper trespass. Which is how I came to be here around 9 last night. Well, actually, how I came to be here, under this tree, was to get out of the rain. I had set up to shoot the tree proper when out of nowhere the rain chucked it down. So that was the end of that shot and how I turned my attention to the rain (which mildly illuminated the distant trees) and the fallen branch.

But first I had to dry and clean up the lens filter. I hung about looking over to distant Berkswell Hall and their orange lights. Then the planes flying on towards Birmingham. Then the geese, then the ducks, scattering en masse, manoeuvring over the fields and returning to Berkswell Hall lake. Then my battery failed.

Once up and running again, the replacement battery failed midway through an exposure bracket.

Oddly, I didn't mind. I stayed where I was, sucking in the inky blue splendour, thinking how lucky I was to be connected to all of this and how trees are my chums. Even odder, as I finally made my tracks homeward, I turned back for one last look at the tree and in doing so, imagined for one brief moment that he might be coming with me.

With all that explained and in the open, the fact that the photographic haul from the hour or so spent out and about was mediocre, doesn't really bother me. Take this shot, a rescue shot of about 20% of the frame.

Have at last caught up from my hols, but the shot for Friday is no banker. I know coz I've already taken it!
