After a long day of rain, we were pleasantly delighted with this huge vibrant rainbow. We could see the whole arch and all of the colors were represented as well. This photo doesn't do it justice. I teach physical geography and can talk to you about low pressure coming in, clouds forming because of the air cooling beyond the dew point and various types of clouds and what type of rain they bring. But I have never researched rainbows. I know they tend to show up after the sun comes out after rain. But why? Why in one place and not another? Is the sun always on one side of you while the rainbow is on the other? Why do they sometimes form two rainbows? Why do they disappear? Hmmm, it's time for me to find these things out.
This is taken in Newport Harbor, California. Scott and I stayed on the boat most of the day doing homework, reading and writing. Of course, we took a break and walked over to Balboa Island for lunch. You wouldn't believe it but there is the best little Mexican restaurant that has amazing soup. It is so filled with chicken and vegetables and seasoned perfectly. So, even though we did homework all afternoon, we had a great time. Oh, did I mention the nap I took......
