Wheeley Clever
Today was really a bit of a road trip. We left Edinburgh after a good breakfast and headed first for the Falkirk Wheel. Built partly to celebrate the millennium this engineering masterpiece replaced a series of locks joining two canals. It's quite a sight, especially when boats are lifted around.
After a bit of lunch we headed into the Highlands. There were plenty of stops for the fantastic views, especially as we approached Glencoe. Eventually we arrived in Fort William and shortly afterwards our overnight stay in Banavie. Our hotel backs onto another canal feature, Neptune's Staircase. Eight locks long, it is the longest staircase lock in Britain.
A lovely dinner, more Scottish scenery tomorrow.
