Ely
We visited the city of Ely today which is a short drive from where we are staying in Cambridge.
This is the cathedral which is AKA The Ship of The Fens and is easily recognisable because of its octagonal central tower.
Another lovely place to visit with nice walks and interesting places.
The name Ely is thought to have come from centuries ago when it was known as Eel Island, the nearby waterways of the fens being full of eels, which was the staple diet in those days. The town emblem is of eels.
Yukkity yuk!
