Roaming in the heather!
This is the wonderful view from the hill tops near Yorke's Folly, looking down on Nidderdale, with Pateley Bridge in the bottom, Gouthwaites Reservoir further up the valley, and the heather blooming around us, and on the hills in the distance.
We have just come back from what I would call a perfect walk. ( 7.5miles)
From Pateley Bridge we walked along the River Nidd to the small village of Glasshouses, and beyond, then over the river where we saw a fly fisherman. (Deep in concentration, hoping for a trout!)
Up the hill side, which is now covered in bracken, to the top, where we stopped for our picnic lunch.
We could see Ripon Cathedral in one direction, and the power stations of Drax, and Ferry Bridge, on the sky line.
The walk took us along the ridge through wonderful purple heather, and with the views then up the valley towards Little Whernside, and Great Haw.
The purple heather covering the moors on the horizon.
It was then back down hill, through the woods, which looked beautiful with the sun shining through the trees.
Called in at a tiny church in Bewerley , where they had a flower festival, and back to the car.
Home now and enjoying a nice glass of chilled white wine!
Feet up and I don't think I will be moving for a while!
Hope you are all enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend too.
The weather has been perfect today, but not sure about tomorrow!
