My Favourite Walk!

The Heritage Park opened in April 1996. The project was funded and constructed by East Kilbride Development Corporation and managed by east Kilbride District Council. The Heritage Park was named after well-known local dairyman, Jim Hamilton. Jim's ability to make people laugh led to demand him as a speaker at various charity events. James and his brother Addie founded the East Kilbride Players. It was decided to name the project James Hamilton Heritage Park, in recognition of Jim's contribution to East Kilbride. The park is now owned by South Lanarkshire Council.

There had been a loch on the site from the 16th Century until the 18th Century when it was drained to provide farmland. In 1994 a man-made loch was re-instated in the footprint of the previous loch.
