Poor Box

At St Ninians church, now disused, also known as Ninekirks near Penrith. Quite a discovery; never heard of it before an article appeared in the local paper, the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald - a hilarious tome. But it proved its worth this time.
The box dates from 1663 and has carving on it stating 'remember the poor'. The church is still in good nick and looked after but not used. It's said to be redundant. The village that was here was moved by the local landowner to make a deer park. The box was empty.
