Koru

This Koru is a detail from a carved panel on the banks of the Maitai River. The Koru is based on the shape of an uncurling fern frond and symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace. It is often used in Maori art as a symbol of creation because of its fluid circular shape. I love the use of positive and negative shapes.
