In Flanders Fields
New album from the best English vocal group currently recording, and it's a particularly timely gem. Coope, Boyes & Simpson have often turned to the Great War for subject matter in the past, but In Flanders Fields gathers together all of their old songs about the conflict and adds a crop of new recordings to create a tremendous double album. There are plenty of songs from the time - including humorous music hall ditties and dark comedy from the trenches - along with original compositions about various aspects of the war, and a few traditional folk tunes associated with the army and anti-war sentiment. Singing for peace may often seem a futile gesture, but rarely has it been done better.
