A Snake in Glasgow's West End
The day of the Commonwealth Cycling Road Race started wet... and just got wetter as the day progressed. At one point during the Men's Road Race it seemed like the race would have to be curtailed such was the downpour and the possibility of part of the course being flooded. It was such a shame for the spectators, too, as they had turned out in their thousands and only the devoted and foolish (of which I was among the latter) stayed to watch the later laps and the race's conclusion.
However, the conditions made for some interesting photography - and, thankfully for those who have to sit through them, a somewhat reduced portfolio!
I met up with friends in the city centre and one of them suggested going onto the pedestrian bridge at Charing Cross to watch the cyclists come down Woodlands Road. It may have been wet and miserable, but I agreed and was rewarded by this shot. Of course, no sooner had the race finished when the sun came out and we were rewarded with clear blue skies. See Scotland? See summer?
Sunday 3rd August was also the day of the Closing Ceremony - I had just about dried out by the time that took place - but I decided to stick with this cycling photo as my blip for the day.
