Suzy is a girl. I have discovered this after hoping she wasn't a boy (because that would have spoilt the story). She has an epigyne. She is a fine specimen of a large European garden spider. Apparently, she eats her web every night along with any crumbs and makes a new one in the morning.

Glad I don't have to do that.
