This bird is not like the other birds...

Another sunny day in New England.

Another garden bird - trying to help C with his bird ID skills for his merit badge in scounts. This can only be one of a few birds, and with the others discounted; the grosbeak is bigger, the corssbill shape is different and the cardinal has a tuft, it really only leaves either the purple or house finch. C id'd that it lacked the features of purple (more 'raspberry' on wings, and dark 'jaw' stripe) it must be a house finch.

He needs to have identified and be able to identify at least 20 birds by sight and 5 by call. This was 8 on his list.
