A break from report writing took me down to the beach where I continued my studies into the phenomenon that is Omani beach football.

My attention was drawn to the size of the goal. It is ridiculously small. No doubt someone has done some work in comparing the size of the average beach pitch to the average size of a normal size pitch and then calculated the relative size of the goal.

It seems there are a number of consequences from the size of the goal. One is that hardly anyone ever scores. In fact, it seems impossible. There is game of football evolving here in which the core purpose - to score a goal - has little meaning.

I think they might be playing for the fun of it. Really.
