Penny loafers - first designed around 1847 in London. Called such because people put pennies in between the 2 bands on the top - possibly as a fashion statement for American students in the 1950's or possibly started even earlier in the 1930's when 2 pennies could make an emergency phone call. Whatever.... I have always loved their classic style and have been looking for the perfect pair for my feet and now I have found them. Happy days
