Water for the Thirsty

We're stopping over in Darlington today to visit mother on our way to Scotland.

We went for a lengthy walk before dinner, passing this Victorian drinking fountain at the end of Millbank Road. It was donated by Joseph Pease, of the famous Quaker Pease family, to promote temperance to travellers and residents of the town.

Sadly it is no longer in working order so we had to quench our thirst with a pint of beer.
