Thoughts of the past in Royal Tunbridge Wells.....
A wonderful day spent wandering around Royal Tunbridge Wells. The delightful Georgian town developed the first Pantiles in the country, it also became a notable spa town, where the rich, famous and royalty would visit to take the waters and wander under the Pantiles with its beautiful collonades. Just wondering, as I walked around, how the grand ladies in their extravagant and enormous dresses and fine gentlemen in their high heels and big wigs maneuvered themselves around the town, where they would promenade along the upper terraces (the lower terraces were for the lower classes!).
Sadly the waters at the Chalybeale Springs situated in the northern end of the Pantiles, where the gentry would come to take the water to cure all sorts of ills had dried up!!! This is the first time in 400 hundred years...I wonder why?
