Simeon and the Fawn
In case you missed it, Simeon is alive and well. He disappeared for a week and I was sure "the predators got him", as I often imagine our cats feel when we get home late for dinner, theirs that is. I was serious though as he was an outdoor kitten and there are lots of nasties around here. But no. Another family had taken him in. Our neighbors got him back and amended their ways. Now he stays in over night and his food is inside, not out where other creatures can get it. So he's doing quite well. In fact he has found his way onto our deck and is becoming a bit of a nuisance, an adorable one not withstanding...
Anyhow, this morning I had taken him gently off the deck, walked him through our house with a bit of a wander for him before I escorted him out the front door, when he, and I, spotted a deer and her fawn in the garden. The fawn was getting fluffy furred and his spots were almost gone. He and Simeon both took note of each other. Sim went zipping up to see what that big creature was. The deer was curious too. And I ran back in and got my camera to record their interaction. You can see the series of photos on Chaikins of Bellingham. I had a hard time picking my blip but liked this one because there was this little kitten sneaking up on a really big animal as if it were prey. The deer was just curious. And after Sim changed his mind and relaxed, and then ran off, the deer followed to see who that little creature was. I was hoping for a nose to nose encounter like I've seen on YouTube but no such luck. Still I was delighted with the encounter just as it was.
