Wicken Fen

On the way to collect Stephen, our eldest son, from Cambridge we stopped off at Wicken Fen. This is a National Trust Nature Reserve. It is known for being an area of undrained Sedge Fen and attracts both butterflies and dragonflies.

We thought the breeze would mean that we would not see many but sheltered amongst the sedge grass there were quite a few. This one was very striking and the best example we found on the walk. None of the dragonflies seemed to rest for long before taking flight so I was pleased to get this one resting.

Any help with identification gratefully received.
