The Solway
Down at Kirkcudbright on the Solway today; the weather was beautiful and we had a lovely walk around the town, which is known as the Artist's Town, as so many of the 'Glasgow Boys' came down here to paint.
The Glasgow Boys were a loose-knit group of avant-garde artists who were inspired by scenes of rural life made by continental painters at the end of the nineteenth century. Their most innovative and appealing works were made between 1880 and 1895.
The light in Kirkcudbright and surrounding area is supposed to be special, and some of them bought houses in the town and stayed.
The harbour is an industrial one, and there were a lot of trawlers in when we were there. There was also a nice marina a bit further round the coast.
