Chriton Castle on a late summer's afternoon
Another favorite nearby Midlothian walk - not far from its neighboring castle at Borthwick - maybe it isn't so bad being back from Shetland (but I miss the folk and the sea).
After walking below the castle to the west (almost shoulder-deep in bracken) to get some shots of the sun on its west face (brilliant blue sky behind - and warm - rain of yesterday gone), I came back by the old medieval Chriton church.
I hadn't noticed before, but there are a lot of weird faces (green-man like) carved in a stone frieze high on the north and south (side) walls of the church - all different - reminds me of some seen at nearby Roslyn (which I know well over many years since my granny was a Sinclair - so I made a point of finding it - long before its recent fame through the Dan Brown book).
