The last day of Winter
Usually I hate winter. Fog. Rain. Mud. Snow. Not so much of the snow this year, but the fog was as it always is - thick and low down.
Having just said that I hate winter, the last two weeks have been beautiful. Sun. Warmth. Clear skies (that is after the fog has lifted!). But this past fortnight is not normal, and really just gives us false hopes that spring has arrived early.
September can be very wet, and with the wet comes the mud. Poor new born wee calves trying desperately to stay warm, only to get drenched and cold. We put them in sheds, cover them with a bit of hay for warmth, and give them some warm milk. That's usually enough to get them back on their feet.
I saw these dead leaves on our oak tree on the farm, and since it is the last day of winter, I though I should blip them, against the beautiful blue sky that we have today.
I'm off to milk now - it's been a busy weekend :-)
