The Little Mermaid

We went up to the north of Copenhagen to see the statue of the little mermaid today. While this shot looks tranquil, I had to elbow my way through hordes of tourists to get close enough to take it. I put the photo in black and white to emphasise the interaction of the old and the new - the fairytale figure from Hans Christian Andersen's story gazes at the industrial buildings behind her, which herald a new era in Copenhagen's history. We saw tributes to Hans Christian Andersen's works all over the city.
