The life & times of Jacks

Stylish Chocolate tours

Steve booked us on this fab chocolate tour around Chelsea, London today. He had booked it during the week and sent me an invite to "a Magical Mystery Tour" with little to no other information. This morning I got a bit suspicious when he advised me to have a low GI breakfast and so pressed for some more info.

We had a fab day. We started out at William Curley in Ebury street where we tasted a chocolate that had japanese black vinegar in it which was amazing. I bought a coconut bar there which is like a posh bounty and it was delish. The next shop was Artisan Du Chocolat which is already a favourite of ours for their caramel salted chocolate balls. Here was amazing and they literally just let us try a variety of different chocolates. We had a gorgeous mint chocolate that was so fresh tasting - the flavours from mint leaves, thinking about it now I want more! We also tasted a tobaco chocolate which really wasn't horrific but not that nice either in terms of after taste.

The third place was Pierre Herme who is famous for macarons and I have to say they were something else. We also had some chocolate with chocolate nibs in it which I am now quite a fan of. The last shop was Rococo Chocolate where we learned more about how to taste and then also tested different levels of intensity all the way to 100% cocoa which is not nice at all. I think I like between 65% and 75%

The health benefits of chocolate are pretty interesting and we also tasted just pure chocolate nibs which are the beans that are ground a little. These can give you a wee bit of the hit of chocolate and an energy burst without the drawbacks of sugar and preservatives in your every day chocolate.

I learned quite a lot today and tasted a lot of chocolate. Fab idea by Steve.

The remainder of the day we went to Covent Garden for a wander where we tried Shake Shack - this is supposed to be an amazing burger place that is reasonably new to London originating in New York. Not a fan. I won't be back there and it was so dissatisfying we ended up in a Mexican cantina place where we had amazing tacos - the flavours were so lovely. I really really love good food.

Anyways my tenuous link to style is that the chocolatiers we visited today were amazingly laid out and such beautiful and stylish shops. What better way to spend a lovely sunny Sunday.
