Teasels at Combs

Please excuse a change of photo - This morning's early wet cobwebs have been trumped by these teasels at Combs Reservoir.

This afternoon we set out to walk all the way round Combs Reservoir near Chapel-en-le-Frith, something we had never done before.

The first part of the walk was muddy and the next part of the walk was muddy then the middle part of the walk was just a bit muddy. After a mistake at the end of the reservoir we reached a much nicer area of country lanes and a visit to the the village of Combs. This little adventure was because we managed to walk off the bottom of the OS Dark Peak map and had left the White Peak map in the car (It would have turned out a shorter but much poorer experience if we had stuck to plan A).

The were large numbers of birds over the water and quite a few on the water. In the Skies one minute it seemed to be all Swallows then a few minutes later even larger numbers of House Martins and then we realised that there were some Sand Martins there as well.

The highlights of those on the water were the family of Great Crested Grebes and there were at least 2 juveniles
